I just got back from my 2 week vacation in Chicago, including the weekend of the Open House by the architecture foundation, pretty much based on this book. Since I've been to the city a few times already, I really didn't need a general guidebook to occupy myself for a relatively long stay there. The main purpose was to take photos but it also covers what regular guidebooks don't cover - gave me many opportunities to see the city from different perspectives. This book was exactly what I needed. The author is so generous, offering an abbreviated web version of this on his site with no charge but this includes far more detailed information, easier access through Kindle App, and less than $10, I'm glad I purchased it. And as an extra, I enjoy a sense of humor he includes here and there. Some reviewers mention the quality of photos used - well, this is NOT a photo book. He doesn't need to use the best of his best works to direct us to the locations and they are still beautiful. I was excited to visit each location and also somewhere between, that is part of urban exploring fun! I wish all the cities in the US had a book like this. I posted a review earlier that was 3 stars. Turns out I had a problem with the book or my Kindle - not sure which. Half way through the book, no shooting locations. I did not realize the first few chapters were looping. Should have read closer. Anyway, I removed and added it again. Sure, I could have done without the "bring extra batteries and memory cards" and similar basic stuff, but I loved the details and comparisons. Sears Tower (SEARS!!!) VS Hancock sky decks, best times to shoot, parking, and lots more.It's a great reference for anyone - local or tourist - who wants to shoot in Chicago! The hints, tips and shooting details are amazing and cover everything.
